Why does being a re-entrant affect my job search?

Print PDF
Some people think that the prospect of jail time and having a criminal record will deter a person from crime. However, once released from incarceration, the residual affect of a criminal record can actually have the opposite effect. A re-entrant’s inability to find work or even conduct a productive job search can be extremely discouraging and stressful and the results reflect in the statistics for repeat offenders.

Others believe that in most circumstances having a criminal record is a form of double jeopardy. Their thinking that once a person has paid their debt to society as declared by a judge or jury there should be nothing baring that individual from becoming a full productive member of society.

This is why we incorporated the social networking aspect of this site. We think people should discuss this issue openly and discuss what is working and what is not.  We think this is a great forum to have the conversation.
