1. Is my information safe?

Your information is completely safe! Not only do we not sell or give any information away, but also the social network portion of the site is completely anonymous. Feel free to speak your mind without affecting a job search. We will always keep comments and profiles private. However, we WILL monitor and sometimes moderate the site for content. While we totally respect freedom of speech, we will not condone or promote any form of cyber bullying, fraud or any other criminal acts.

2. Why should I advertise on this site?

Advertising on this site is a great way to promote services to maybe the largest growing demographic in the United States. Every year, hundreds of thousands of individuals re-enter society from prison. While searching for employment, many of those individuals will be looking for assistance in getting their records expunged, or pardoned. They may also need legal services for other issues, or need career training and education. If your company is a resource for individuals in need, NotOut.org is a great way to reach them.

3. Where do I start?

You can get started by setting up your own profile and start job searching. We will be updating this site regularly with information and links to other community-orientated organizations. Please check frequently and subscribe to our newsletter for news, events and other items of interest.

4. Why does being a re-entrant affect my job search?

Some people think that the prospect of jail time and having a criminal record will deter a person from crime. However, once released from incarceration, the residual affect of a criminal record can actually have the opposite effect. A re-entrant’s inability to find work or even conduct a productive job search can be extremely discouraging and stressful and the results reflect in the statistics for repeat offenders.

Others believe that in most circumstances having a criminal record is a form of double jeopardy. Their thinking that once a person has paid their debt to society as declared by a judge or jury there should be nothing baring that individual from becoming a full productive member of society.

This is why we incorporated the social networking aspect of this site. We think people should discuss this issue openly and discuss what is working and what is not. We think this is a great forum to have the conversation.

6. I have been searching for a while, what am I doing wrong?

In this economy, finding employment has been difficult for just about everyone. Employers have had to do more work and have had less capital or credit to do that work. With this site, we hope to simplify the application process for both applicants and employers. Adding this site to your job search will be a helpful tool to find employment faster.

7. Why would I even consider hiring a re-entrant?

  • You should consider hiring a re-entrant because a working re-entrant has a much lower chance of committing another infraction. This may be a benefit to one or more individuals, but also a community as a whole.

  • Depending on your specific circumstances, your company may receive federal, state or local tax benefits for hiring a reentrant. We’re doing more research on this issue and when we have more information, we’ll post it “here”.

8. Why should I interview an applicant from this site?

This site is a good tool to find well-qualified employees for your company. We match potential job candidates like no other website out there. It is also a great way to give back to your neighborhood. The candidates on this site are ready for employment, ready to make their place in society.

9. Why should I post a job on this site?

First, posting jobs here is FREE! Many job sites charge for posting ads. As long as we can afford to, posting on NotOut.org will be free of charge. In addition, posting a job on this site will save everyone time by not showing applicants jobs they do not qualify for, which should also cut down on applications to sort through. It is also a good way to give back to your community by giving re-entrants a chance that may not get from other employers.

10. Why should I look for a job here?

NotOut.org is a great place to start a job search. We try to match job seekers and employers better than most job sites out there. We take pride in our ability to match individuals perfectly to their potential employers.

11. What if I am not a re-entrant, can I still look for a job on this site?

Absolutely, in fact we encourage it! Once you set up a profile, the site will display jobs that most closely match criteria in your profile. If you have nothing on your record, it just means you will see more jobs. This site is not specifically for re-entrants, nor do we ever imply or recommend an employer to hire a re-entrant. We merely ask employers to specify their normal application process.

12. What is the purpose of this website?

Our overall aim is to help get people working by matching certain specific criteria during the jobs search process. Our hope is that at the same time we get citizens reentering society inspired about the job search process. We feel that in this economy, it is more beneficial to everyone to have every able body contributing to society.
